My 5 favorite zero waste applications

Adopting more ethical behaviour and a zero waste approach has been one of your good resolutions since 1999, but you've never really taken the time to make it happen? This year it's the right year, so to help you, I'm offering you a top 5 of the best green apps to reduce your impact on the planet.

At the end of this article, you'll be able to find out where the products you buy at the supermarket come from, the carbon footprint of your travel or food and how you can reduce your waste.

Favorite zero waste apps

1.         90 days

This application is in the form of a personal assistant, which helps you to switch to a green and zero waste lifestyle. Through 15 challenges to change your reflexes and habits, all completely personalized and over 90 days (hence its name). If you feel you're about to crack then press the panic button and I'll let you find out what will happen...

It's the perfect application to become aware of eco gestures at your own pace. Me, my first challenge was to place a "Stop Pub" on the mailbox, and you?

2.           Ocean's Zero

In the same vein as "90 days", this free application offers 25 challenges to reduce your carbon footprint on the oceans because let's remember that most of our waste ends up in the ocean. It is thus possible to follow its progress, the effects of these small gestures but also to communicate with the community of people who use this application.

3.           Too Good To Go

Created in 2017 by the French Lucie Baschn Too Good to GO is an application that fights against food waste. Its principle is simple: with the help of an application, restaurateurs/bakeries or other mainly food shops offer their unsold items at discount prices to Internet users who go directly to the place and take them away in their own containers (dishes, tupperware, etc.). In only 3 years, more than 10 million meals have already been saved. The app is available on IOS and Android and is offered in many cities around the world, so check quickly to see if there are any near you and don't hesitate to share your good addresses with me.

4.           Eat4Good

Downloadable free of charge, this application aims to raise awareness and help its users to eat more ecologically and fairly, as it allows them to discover the environmental impact of their food (CO2 emissions, water consumption, animal suffering, health, budget...).

The user simply has to enter his eating habits and then receives an overall score 'between A+++ and G) that he can improve by changing his habits.

This application allows its users to really become aware of their impact and make them change it. So even if the beginning seems difficult, try to hang on and together we will make it happen!

5.           Ecocompare

If you are looking for an application to analyze and compare ecological products, Ecocompare is the one for you. Free of charge, it offers confidence indicators to help you see more clearly. It mainly uses 3 criteria:

- Manufacturing: use of recycled materials, renewable materials without GMOs, certified organic, local manufacturing, CO2 emissions...

- Use: life span and use, reduction of toxic products or emissions.

- Recycling: compostable or biodegradable materials, minimal or recyclable packaging. A product that is recyclable or produces little waste or is naturally biodegradable will of course have the highest score.

Based on these 3 criteria, the application gives a score to each product.

Ecocompare is even available for the visually impaired by complying with the WCAG 2.0 standard, which makes the content of the site compatible with voice synthesis or Braille software.

I'm waiting for your feedback on the ones you downloaded! (:
